Saquon Barkley’s father was reportedly arrested earlier this week.
Barkley, who is looking forward to his first season with the Philadelphia Eagles, has previously spoken about his father’s struggles with law enforcement and will likely be disturbed to learn he has had another brush.
According to FOX News’ Greg Thompson, Alibay Barkley was pulled over by police during a traffic stop in the Bronx, and a loaded gun was found in his car. The elder Barkley could be charged with criminal gun possession.
“A law enforcement source tells me that Alibay Barkley, the father of former #Giants and current #Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was pulled over in the Bronx for a traffic stop and was found with a gun. He could be charged with criminal possession of a weapon,” Thompson reported late on Thursday night.
“I’m told this happened yesterday at the corner of East 140th and 3rd Ave in Mott Haven. Sources say the gun was loaded,” he added later on.
“You have to respect him as a man. A lot of people can’t look their kids in the face and tell them the decisions that they made were awful and the mistakes they made were bad. That helped me.”
The Eagles running back said his dad spent a year at Riker’s Island on a gun charge when he was 19.
A representative for the player said he had no information on the arrest, while the NYPD has refused to comment.
