Born prematurely at 32 weeks in February, Dominic faced a challenging journey from the start. A prenatal ultrasound revealed a bright spot on his liver, accompanied by an enlarged heart. The doctors’ initial somber prediction hinted at a bleak outcome, suggesting that he might never wake up.

Meagan’s husband, Jarrod, rushed her to the hospital, where an emergency c-section became necessary. Upon Dominic’s birth, Meagan noticed his blue complexion and spotted skin. The following day, doctors diagnosed Dominic with an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in his liver, a complex network of abnormally formed arteries and veins that posed a higher risk of bleeding. Further complications emerged when they discovered an AVM in his right temporal lobe, leading to a hemorrhage and stroke.

The neurologist delivered a heartbreaking prognosis, hinting at the possibility that Dominic might not survive. Despite being conscious, he required significant life support measures. Meagan and Jarrod, devastated but determined, cherished every moment with Dominic, taking pictures, christening him, and tucking him into bed. When they eventually agreed to follow medical advice and switch off Dominic’s life support, they expected him to fade away. To their surprise and delight, Dominic continued to fight, evolving into a resilient and cheerful four-month-old baby. The family remains convinced that Dominic’s spots are unrelated to his other health challenges.

Meagan emphasizes that Dominic’s spots have no connection to his stroke and AVM condition.
