Kansas City Chiefs’ Charles Omenihu Extends Gratitude to Mother for Support During ACL Recovery, Super Bowl Absence

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Charles Omenihu gave a huge shout out to his mother for helping him through his recovery after tearing his ACL and missing the Super Bowl.

Omenihu suffered the long-term injury during the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Chiefs’ previous game to their Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers earlier this year.

Omenihu had a constant presence in Kansas City’s defense, which recently broke the stigma surrounding its unit.

For previous seasons, it was perceived superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes would win despite the Chiefs defense being average. Since the team traded wide receiver Tyreek Hill, it gained enough assets to build a solid defense.

Omenihu was one of them, coming to the Chiefs from the 49ers last year.

Omenihu gave a huge shout out to his mom on 'Up & Adams' as he recovers from a torn ACL

‘Words can’t describe how much I appreciate my mother,’ Omenihu said on Up & Adams. ‘My mom is my rock, she is my reason for everything, she is my why.’

‘She has helped me throughout this whole process. She’s kept me steadfast and I love her form the bottom of my heart,’ Omenihu continued.

Omenihu had seven sacks in 2023 and is entering the final year on his 2-year contract

‘I was telling her “what do you want for your thank you for doing this?” I tell her thank you all he time, make sure she knows she’s appreciated all the time. But it’s like I want to make her even more happy,’ Omenihu added.

‘Its not easy helping somebody through this.  I was really like helpless, I couldn’t do anything. Nothing by myself, so the fact that she’s been there every step of the way, as a man, as a son, you can’t ask for a better mom.,’ Omenihu concluded.

A torn ACL typically comes with a several-month recovery, giving Omenihu a chance to be fully healthy by the start of the upcoming season.

He is under contract with the Chiefs through the end of next season, where Omenihu is slated to be an unrestricted free agent.

Omenihu had seven sacks last season and has said publicly he think he did enough to earn a new contract with the team.

‘I think the tape speaks for itself,’ Omenihu said via NFL Network. ‘I think I showed dominant run play and then with the pass rush, inside and outside and just winning one-on-ones, creating turnovers, being the spark and, like, the energy plays they wanted me to be when I got there.’
